Séte Frontignan, Beach Nourishment

Séte Frontignan phase ll beach nourishment

Rohde Nielsen carried out a beach nourishment project for French client, Sète agglo, to contain erosion and limit the risk of inundations.
Phase 2 of the lido (beach front) work, which began at the end of 2019, was finished early March 2020, just in time before beach closure due to coronavirus containment measures.

The project concerned the urbanized parts of Frontignan’s beaches, from the leisure zones of the port of Sète-Frontignan to the sector known as the “Dent Creuse”. The aim was to restore a natural balance by recharging the sandy beaches and creating a dune at the top of the beach over a length of 5 km (using nearly 180,000 m3 of sand dredged at l’Espiguette), in front of the dwellings to be protected. A neighbour project, in parallel, rehabilitated and extended the “T” of 4 beach groins, located west of the marina.

Begun with the installation of site facilities, the actual work started in January 2020 and was to be interrupted for the tourist season, from May to autumn, for an expected end in February 2021. The dredging and sand replenishment works however, have been completed, as well as the restructuring of the groins.

  • Location: Montpellier, France
