Courseulles offshore wind farms

 Rock installation

Rohde Nielsen was contracted to install the 82 pcs of rock beds approx. 13×18 m. at 24 locations / foundations for the Courseulles OWF.

The rock is produced at a quarry in Norway. The total amount of rocks produced was approx. 68,000 ton. All produced rocks were shipped from Norway to Saint Wandrille in France. All shipping was taken place in the period between 1st September and 2nd November 2023, in total 3 shiploads of rocks will be shipped. Shipping of rocks from Norway was ongoing during rock installation.

Before the start of loading of rocks, a pile of approx. 4 500 ton of rocks was prepared and laid along the quayside by a local stevedoring company, the pile was in reach distance of the Grane R cranes. This was continued true out the project, every time Grane R left Saint Wandrille quay a new stockpile of approx. 4500 ton was prepared.

Grane R was load herself and then transit to the offshore installation site to install the rock according to given position and design. Before installation were commenced an in-survey was be done. Installation was done by fall pipe and wire crane, during the installation surveys were done frequently, this to monitor the status of the installation, when the final design is achieved an out-survey was done. The all out-survey was immediately forward to the client, for final approval.
