York Development Pipeline, Offshore Services

Trench dredging, pre-sweep and backfilling at the East Yorkshire Coast

Centrica Energy was developing the York Gas reservoir (34 km offshore) by installing a new offshore platform and a new pipeline to flow gas from this new “York” platform into the Centrica’s Easington Terminal.

Saipem Limited was installing this new gas pipeline and had awarded Rohde Nielsen the contract to dredge a 7 km marine trench, from the cofferdam (beach) towards the offshore. For that job, the two BHD’s (Mjølner R and Transport 52) were used.

To Pre-sweep underwater “gravel/clay” dunes we deployed the split hopper suction trailer Njord R. Afterwards the backhoe dredger, Mjølner R, performed the backfilling over the pipe, with the side-casted material to the original seabed level.
